Texas Supreme Court Justice Beats Primary Disqualification Bid

A Texas Supreme Court justice is eligible to run in the March primary if he can fix defects in his ballot application, his peers on the high court ruled Thursday.

Justice John Devine had faced potential disqualification after his opponent in the Republican race said Devine failed to obtain the minimum number of signatures from registered voters.

In siding with Devine, the Supreme Court said “there is no dispute” that he’s allowed to fix the problems raised by challenger Brian Walker, an intermediary appeals court justice.
