Texas Supreme Court Denies Justice Hopeful Access to GOP Primary

The Texas Supreme Court denied a suburban Austin public official access to the Republican primary to run for state justice, meaning an incumbent justice will run unopposed in March.

While Pflugerville Councilman David Rogers—who filed his allegedly deficient candidacy materials with the state Republican Party on Dec. 8, hours before the deadline—argued that he submitted corrected information, the justices noted that he did so after the filing deadline. State law forbids the acceptance of amended materials after the deadline, the state’s high court said Tuesday.
