Texas Students Get Relief From Ban on Gender Identity Groups

Texas student groups are entitled to early relief in their suit challenging a state law they say unlawfully bans all student organizations based on sexual orientation or gender identity, a federal district court said.

Houston, Katy, and Plano school districts seeking to enforce Senate Bill 12 failed to defend their positions, meaning the students’ motion for a preliminary injunction must be granted as unopposed, Judge Charles Eskridge of the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas said in a Friday order partially granting the students a preliminary injunction.
