A Texas law requiring proof of age to download a smartphone app received a cold reception from a federal judge Tuesday, a strong indication that it won’t go into effect as planned on Jan. 1.
The law requiring all users to provide proof of age likely violates free speech protections for adults and minors, Judge Robert Pitman indicated during a hearing in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas.
