The deadline to apply for Texas’ new school choice program is extended by two weeks, a federal judge ruled Tuesday, a temporary win for Muslim parents and Islamic schools that the state is seeking to keep from receiving the funds.
Deciding two religious protection challenges, Judge Alfred H Bennett of the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas stopped the state from closing the application period on Tuesday as scheduled, according to Eric Hudson, of Arambula Terrazas PLLC, who represents two schools and a parent in the litigation.
