Texas’ new statewide appellate court is limited to resolving only cases involving the state and complex business disputes, not any civil matter, the Texas Supreme Court ruled Friday.
The high court opinion clears up a pressing jurisdictional dilemma for the Court of Appeals, Fifteenth District, which previously ruled on a split vote that it must accept any case based on a strict reading of the legislation that approved the court in 2023.
But “several textual clues indicate that this is not what the Legislature intended at all,” the high court justices said in a per curiam opinion.
