Civil cases in Texas must stay with the same judge from start to finish, the Texas Supreme Court announced Friday, finalizing a rule change that Chief Justice Jimmy Blacklock had outlined as a priority.
The elimination of the central docket system for assigning cases is effective July 1, according to an administrative order signed by all nine justices. Counties that believe they can’t comply with the change by then may petition the court for an extension.
