Texas Justices Consider ABA Accreditation Requirement Repeal

The Texas Supreme Court is seeking input on potentially ending a 42-year requirement that all lawyers admitted in the state must graduate from a school approved by the American Bar Association.

The high court’s announcement April 4 came without explanation, and a court spokesperson declined to comment Monday.

The move comes as the US Justice Department is threatening to pull the ABA’s authority to accredit law schools, and after President Donald Trump’s order to end federal funding of diversity, equity, and inclusion programming.
