Texas High Court Halts Harris County’s Low-Income Distributions

Texas’s Harris County is temporarily blocked from distributing $20.5 million to low-income residents under a monthly distribution program opposed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Texas Supreme Court said Tuesday.

The administrative stay comes a day before more than 1,900 families in the state’s largest county were set to receive their first monthly payments.

The high court provided no explanation for the stay, which is typical in granting emergency relief. The stay will be in place until at least next Monday, the deadline for Harris County to file a response in support of the program.
