Texas GOP Prosecutor Wants More Time to Investigate Austin DA

A Texas prosecutor overseeing a Republican effort to remove Austin’s district attorney says he needs more time to determine if he has a proper case.

Requesting a delay in a hearing set for next week, Bell County Attorney James Nichols (R) on Friday told a state trial court he needs additional time to “investigate the matter before deciding whether the state will proceed with this action” against Travis County District Attorney José Garza (D).

Nichols said Garza consented to the continuance request. Garza, the filing notes, has yet to be served with a citation ordering his appearance. District court judge ...
