Texas College Must Face Partially Revived Retaliation Claims

A Texas community college shed contractual rights claims in a lawsuit by a former employee, a Texas judge said.

Kristen Bennett, former executive vice president for advancement, said she was treated unfairly by then-chancellor of the Tarrant County College District Eugene Giovannini because she disciplined a subordinate he was allegedly having an “inappropriate relationship” with, the court said.

The US District Court for the Northern District of Texas on Wednesday granted the dismissal of Bennett’s breach of contract claims under Title VII with prejudice in favor of the district. But, it denied the dismissal of Bennett’s Title VII retaliation claim. ...
