A Texas pastor who defeated defamation claims related to his anti-abortion views can recover $124,000 in attorney’s fees, plus $63,000 in conditional fees if he prevails on appeal, a trial court judge ruled.
The guaranteed amount is smaller than the $200,000 pastor Mark Lee Dickson requested. That’s because Dickson didn’t have a contract spelling out an hourly rate with his lawyer for the first three years of the case, Judge Laurie Eiserloh of Texas’ 455th Civil District Court said in a September hearing and reiterated in a Dec. 6 order.
