Texas Anti-Abortion Groups Beat Claims in State’s Heartbeat Law

A group of Texas citizens who’ve threatened to enforce the state’s pre-Roe abortion laws can’t be sued by pro-abortion groups trying to stop them from taking action.

The citizens are no longer interested in pursuing those claims and therefore the opposing groups lack standing to sue them, US District Judge Robert Pitman of the Western District of Texas said in an opinion signed Tuesday and entered Wednesday.

Pitman dismissed claims against five individual defendants, the latest blow for Texas abortion nonprofits fearful that they will be exposed to civil or criminal liability for helping Texans seek abortions in other states. ...
