Tennessee Youths Ask Top Court to Weigh in on Trans Care Ban (2)

The US Supreme Court must decide if Tennessee can enforce its ban on puberty blocking drugs and cross-sex hormones when used to treat gender dysphoria in minors, according to a petition filed Wednesday by transgender youths, their parents, and medical providers.

The group asked the nation’s top court to decide if the state’s categorical prohibition on gender-affirming healthcare for transgender youths triggers heightened scrutiny under the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause, which means that Tennessee must show that the provision furthers an important government interest.
