Teacher Disciplined for Anti-DNC Post Loses First Amendment Suit

An ex-assistant principal who called the 2020 DNC the “Demtard convention” on Facebook failed to persuade a federal judge that he was unconstitutionally demoted as a result.

The Central Valley School District “met its burden of showing that its legitimate interest in fostering a safe and inclusive educational environment outweighs Plaintiff’s First Amendment interest in using the term ‘demtard’ and other derogatory terms in his Facebook post,” the US District Court for the Eastern District of Washington said Thursday.

Judge Stanley A. Bastian granted summary judgment to the school district in the ex-administrator’s suit.
