Tahoe Resources Inc. got a federal judge’s preliminary approval to settle for $19.5 million allegations that the mining company misrepresented business, operations, and management issues related to a mine in Guatemala.
The mining company allegedly misled investors starting in 2013, representing that its Escobal mine was in compliance with the law, regulations, and respect for local indigenous people. Tahoe continued touting engagement with indigenous communities and the rigorous compliance oversight of its mining operation, as well as environmental stewardship measures it had taken, according to the 2017 complaint filed in US District Court for the District of Nevada.
