Suspended Attorney Denied Bid to Run for Minnesota Supreme Court

An attorney who is suspended or disbarred from the practice of law in Minnesota can’t run for election as a judge or serve as one, the state Supreme Court held Wednesday.

Michelle MacDonald, a practicing lawyer in Minnesota from 1986-2021, petitioned to appear on the state’s 2024 ballot for an associate justice position. The secretary of state’s office turned her away because her state law license was suspended in June 2021.
