Supreme Court Ruling Upends Illinois Bribery Case, Lawyers Say

Lawyers for former Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan are arguing that a recent US Supreme Court ruling should upend his prosecution for alleged public corruption, ahead of a trial scheduled for later this year.

Madigan is charged with 23 counts of racketeering, bribery, and conspiracy, but his lawyers asked US Judge John Robert Blakey of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois to dismiss 14 of the charges due to the US Supreme Court’s June 26 ruling in Snyder v. United States.
