Supposed Psychic’s 17-Year Jewel Theft Sentence Undone on Appeal

A purported psychic and spiritual adviser who stole $90 million worth of jewelry from a client’s employer in Qatar won an appeal to undo his 17-year prison sentence.

The US District Court for the Middle District of Florida didn’t give enough weight to the sentencing guidelines, the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit said Tuesday.

The court appeared to rely “solely on its own judgment” when it imposed a prison term more than twice the upper bound of the guidelines’ advisory range, the appeals court said in an unpublished, per curiam ruling.
