The American Red Cross convinced a Florida federal court to dismiss for lack of standing a lawsuit alleging that the organization mismanaged hundreds of millions of dollars donated for Haiti disaster relief.
The Haitian Diaspora Political Action Committee—which represents Haitian Americans in the US and abroad—lacks standing to sue for fraud and breach of contract because it didn’t show that the Red Cross’s alleged actions harmed individual members, Chief Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga of the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida said in a Tuesday order.
