States Appeal Ruling Tossing ‘Social Cost’ Climate Metric Suit

Missouri, Alaska, and 11 other states will challenge a judge’s ruling blocking their attempt to stop agencies from using the Biden administration’s reworked estimates on the social costs of greenhouse gas emissions, according to Missouri federal court filing.

The states argue the interim estimates on the social cost of carbon, nitrous oxide, and methane are faulty and that they will be used to justify increased regulations and restrictions. They sought an order from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri blocking the federal government from using the estimates in any agency action.
