The State University of New York at Buffalo and other defendants secured dismissal of a suit alleging that they violated the First Amendment by imposing restrictions on campus groups, a federal district court said.
The University at Buffalo Young Americans for Freedom initially sued in June 2023, asserting that the university imposed unlawful restrictions on the group after it hosted a speaker that attracted protests. Under what the group called a Legal Status Ban, it was precluded from entering into contracts and making financial transactions by itself, and was prevented from accessing university funds.
