St. Louis Man Wins New Sentence on Identity Theft Convictions

A St. Louis man serving 41 months in prison for identity theft will get a new sentence because the punishment was based on an unreasonable estimate of victim losses, the Eighth Circuit said Wednesday.

“What the district court needs to do is subtract,” Judge David R. Stras said, affirming Arondo Harris’s convictions but remanding the case for resentencing.

Harris was convicted for using fake deeds to take possession of three houses he intended to renovate for profit.
