SRP Credit Union Beats Customer Lawsuit Over 2024 Data Breach

SRP Federal Credit Union defeated a proposed class action alleging it negligently failed to protect the personal information of around 240,000 current and former customers that was exposed in a 2024 data breach.

The plaintiffs failed to allege concrete injuries that were traceable to the breach, a requirement for standing to sue in federal court, Judge Cameron McGowan Currie said Thursday for the US District Court for the District of South Carolina.

Currie granted SRP’s motion to dismiss, and gave the plaintiffs leave to file an amended complaint.
