Spotify Says Drake’s Early Discovery Requests Aren’t Appropriate

Spotify USA Inc. says rapper and singer Drake is trying to undermine the judicial process for discovery with his pre-action petition seeking information for a civil racketeering suit about the release of Kendrick Lamar’s song, “Not Like Us.”

The music streamer denies Drake’s claims that the company worked out a deal with Universal Music Group to unlawfully promote Lamar’s song.

“Indeed, the discovery sought from Spotify is the kind one would expect to see following the filing of a lawsuit, whether in the form of party or third-party discovery,” Spotify wrote in a filing with the New York Supreme Court. ...
