Spotify Accused of Faking ‘Personalized’ Music Recommendations

Spotify USA Inc. was hit with a proposed class action alleging the streaming service dupes users into believing they are receiving personalized music recommendations based on their listening tastes, when playlists are actually driven by pay-to-play practices.

“Spotify’s promise of personalization is false,” and the company admits that it offers artists and record labels promotional tools to increase the likelihood that their songs will be added to algorithmic playlists, according to the complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
