Splenda Maker Sued Over Stevia Options’ ‘100% Natural’ Label (1)

TC Heartland LLC was hit with a proposed class action alleging its Splenda Naturals Stevia sweetener was falsely labeled “100% Natural” when it was made from synthetic ingredients.

“Heartland markets Splenda Naturals Stevia in this manner because it knows the claim is compelling to consumers, who are willing to pay more for all-natural product,” the complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York says. “Reasonable consumers understand and expect ‘all’ or ‘100%' natural products to be ones that do not contain man-made, synthetic ingredients, nor ingredients subject to harsh chemical processes.”
