Special Counsel Dellinger Sues Trump, Officials Over His Removal

Special Counsel Hampton Dellinger sued the Trump administration Monday, saying that the president’s attempt to fire him is unlawful, in another case that puts before a federal court the executive’s power to remove certain officers.

The Office of Special Counsel, by law, is designed to be independent so the president can’t fire Dellinger except for inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office, the complaint filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia says. Dellinger asked the court to confirm he can’t be removed or obstructed.
