Solvay Worker Should Be Denied Race, Age Bias Trial, Judge Says

Solvay Specialty Polymers USA LLC shouldn’t face trial on whether the company failed to hire a long-time employee into a new day-shift position because she’s Black and was roughly 20 years older than the chosen candidate , a federal judge in Georgia said.

The race and age discrimination claims of the quality control lab technician at the Solvay SA unit’s Augusta, Ga., facility don’t merit resolution by a jury because she lacks evidence to refute the employer’s explanation that the 30-year-old White woman who got the job was the most qualified applicant, Magistrate Judge Catherine M. Salinas said.
