SNAP Recipients Sue Agriculture Department Over DOGE Data Demand

Participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program sued the Department of Agriculture to prevent it from requiring the states to turn over their sensitive personal information as part of President Donald Trump’s government-efficiency initiative.

The USDA demand, sent to state agencies tasked with the day-to-day administration of the SNAP program, violated a variety of federal laws aimed at protecting the privacy of people whose information the government collects, including the Privacy Act, the Paperwork Reduction Act, and the Administrative Procedures Act, according to a complaint filed Thursday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
