Snap Inc. will have to defend a lawsuit alleging it facilitated the sale of fentanyl-laced pills that caused the death of eight of its users after a California state appeals court on Thursday declined to review the case.
The Los Angeles-based maker of the messaging app Snapchat had petitioned California’s Second District Court of Appeals to review a trial court ruling from January finding that the tech industry’s immunity law known as Section 230 doesn’t block the lawsuit.
The appeals court denied Snap’s petition without issuing a written explanation.
