Smithfield Foods Inc. is facing another suit alleging that it shortchanged more than 1,000 meatpacking workers by excluding Covid-19-related hazard pay from their overtime wages, accoring to a complaint filed in a federal court in North Carolina.
This is the second Fair Labor Standards Act suit filed against Smithfield this month over the failure to factor hazard pay into overtime calculations.
Smithfield isn’t the only company that has faced such allegations. An Albertson’s employee filed a similar suit against the grocery retailer in November, though she has since dropped the claims.
