Six Flags Theme Parks Inc.’ inability to provide a deaf patron with interpreter services constituted an Americans with Disabilities Act violation, a federal judge ruled

Melvin Patterson was awarded actual and statutory damages after repeated attempts to get the amusement company to provide an American Sign Language interpreter failed. The US District Court for the Eastern District of California gave Patterson about $54,000 in actual and statutory damages after, among other things, he was unable to fully participate when he visited Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for his daughter’s birthday.
