Signal Peak Energy LLC must pay $1 million after the company acknowledged violating health and safety standards at its underground coal mine near Roundup, a federal magistrate judge in Montana ruled Monday.
The company failed to report injuries to workers and improperly disposed of mine waste, according to the Justice Department. It previously pleaded guilty in October to four counts of willful violation of health and safety standards, which is a misdemeanor, the DOJ said.
