Former President Donald Trump’s ex-campaign lawyer Sidney Powell has settled a lawsuit alleging she and others defamed and intentionally inflicted emotional distress on a onetime Dominion Voting Systems Inc. employee in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election.
Powell reached an undisclosed settlement agreement Monday with Eric Coomer, former director of product strategy and security for Dominion, Coomer’s attorney Charlie Cain said in a Wednesday statement. Coomer alleged Powell, the Trump campaign, and others recklessly spread dubious and unverifiable claims that he conspired with Antifa activists to switch votes to Joe Biden.
- A Colorado appellate court ruled in April that a jury could find Powell and others had a reckless disregard for the truth
- Powell pleaded guilty in 2023 for her involvement in a separate case in Georgia case where the state accuses her, the former president, and others of attempting to overturn the 2020 results in the newly minted battleground state
- Coomer’s civil conspiracy claim was dismissed in April after the Colorado appeals court determined there wasn’t sufficient evidence of an agreement to defame him
Cain declined to comment further on the settlement’s details. None of the remaining parties immediately returned a Wednesday request for comment.
