Shriners Worker With Missing Organ Gets Trial Over Covid Vaccine

A jury must decide if Shriners Hospital for Children engaged in discrimination by firing a male 56-year-old physical therapist who lacks a spleen after refusing to exempt him from its Covid-19 vaccination mandate.

Shriners knew Robert Mildes’ doctor recommended he hold off on getting vaccinated until further studies on its effects on individuals without a spleen, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Washington said Thursday. Mildes, who survived childhood cancer and a serious motorcycle accident, proposed as an accommodation being allowed to provide in-person care while wearing an N-95 mask and undergoing weekly testing.
