Shiseido Cosmetics Buyers Failed to Show Harm in PFAS Lawsuit

Shiseido Americas Corp. consumers alleging the company deceptively sold high-end cosmetics as “clean” and “natural” when they contain PFAS didn’t show they’d suffered financial harm.

The proposed class action was dismissed, for now, by the US Disrict Court for the Southern District of New York because the plaintiffs didn’t show they had bought an affected product, and therefore lacked standing to sue.

It’s part of a cluster of suits over consumer products that allegedly expose people to PFAS—per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, part of a group of “forever chemicals” known to harm humans and the environment.
