Sherwin-Williams’ Insurance Spat Heads to Ohio Supreme Court

A dispute over whether The Sherwin-Williams Co.’s insurance policies cover a $100 million settlement to remediate lead paint in homes in California is heading to the Ohio Supreme Court.

The state’s justices announced Tuesday that they would accept a case the Cleveland-based paint giant filed against several insurance companies, including Lloyd’s of London and Berkshire Hathaway Direct Insurance Co. The decision was 6-1, with Justice Patrick F. Fischer dissenting.

The dispute stems from claims Sherwin-Williams, ConAgra Grocery Products Co., and NL Industries Inc. first faced from multiple California cities and counties more than two decades ago over the neurological harms, ...
