BCI Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Los Angeles and Shell Oil Co. reached a tentative agreement in a California federal court to settle environmental cleanup cost claims from a former synthetic rubber factory that supported the federal government during World War II.
Shell allegedly spent $2.5 million and expected to spend $4.7 million more to address contamination at the Superfund site south of Los Angeles. The parties participated in private mediation that led to a settlement in principle, according to a July 17 notice filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
