Sharp Units Shed Lawsuit Alleging Microwave Handles Burn Users

Two Sharp Corp. units shook off, for now, a proposed class action over allegedly dangerous microwave handles, as a federal court in California said consumers failed to show it had jurisdiction over the companies.

Erika Mendoza and others said they overpaid for certain over-the-range microwaves with steel handles that allegedly conduct excessive heat from the stoves below and get hot enough to burn users.

They sued various companies including Sharp Appliances Thailand Ltd., a Thailand-based manufacturer, and Sharp Manufacturing Co. of America, which allegedly tested microwaves manufactured by SATL.
