Sequoia Gets Approval for $8.7 Million Data Breach Settlement

Sequoia Benefits and Insurance Services LLC is set to pay $8.7 million to resolve negligence and breach of contract claims stemming from a 2022 data breach incident, under a settlement that won preliminary approval Wednesday.

The settlement would require Sequoia to adopt specified but undisclosed data security practices. Class members would recover on average $75, while California residents would recover $225 on average, according to court documents filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. Judge Rita F. Lin found the settlement deal sufficiently fair for preliminary approval.
