Senate Panel Votes to Boost Legal Services Corporation Funding

The Senate Appropriations Committee voted to increase funding for the Legal Services Corporation to $566 million after the Trump administration sought to wind down the program that assists the poor.

The $6 million boost was included in the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies spending bill that was approved on Thursday for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1.

LSC is an independent agency that provides financial support for legal assistance to low-income people, including funding to 130 non-profit legal aid programs. It requested $2.1 billion for fiscal 2026.
