SEC Sues Alleged CryptoFX Scam Participants, Settles With Some

Seventeen individuals acted as leaders in a $300 million Ponzi scheme involving CryptoFX LLC that targeted Latino investors, the SEC alleged Thursday in a suit that has partially settled.

Two of the defendants agreed to pay a total of more than $68,000 in disgorgement, interest, and civil penalties, the Securities and Exchange Commission said in a press release.

The action follows a September 2022 suit by the SEC against the scheme’s alleged principals, Mauricio Chavez and Giorgio Benvenuto.
