SeatGeek Dodges Proposed Class Action Over TikTok, Meta Trackers

SeatGeek Inc. convinced a federal court in California to dismiss a proposed class action over the online ticket platform’s use of third-party trackers because the lead plaintiff lacked standing to bring the suit.

There’s no reasonable expectation of privacy in information like IP addresses, cookie identifiers, and device model, Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler of the US District Court for the Northern District of California said Thursday.

Plaintiff Jose Torres admitted he didn’t provide SeatGeek with personal information, and collecting metadata from a visit to a public ticket-resale website doesn’t resemble a traditional common-law privacy tort, Beeler said.
