Scripps Beats Suit Over Disclosure of HGTV Viewing Info to Meta

Scripps Networks LLC defeated a proposed class action alleging it disclosed the video-watching histories of visitors to its HGTV website to Meta Platforms Inc. without their consent in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act.

Lead plaintiff Constance Simon established standing to sue in federal court but failed to show that the information disclosed to Meta was personally identifiable information as defined in the VPPA, Judge P. Kevin Castel of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said Thursday. Castel granted the company’s motion to dismiss without leave to amend.
