Scientific American User Advances Suit Over Meta Info Sharing

The Scientific American website operator must face a proposed class action alleging it shared the video-viewing histories of site visitors with Meta Platforms Inc. without their consent in violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act.

Lead plaintiff Mark Lee adequately pleaded that Springer Nature America Inc. was a “video tape service provider” and that he was a “consumer” under the definitions of the VPPA, Judge Lewis J. Liman of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said Tuesday.
