Scientific American Pixel Deal Gets Final Nod, Lower Counsel Fee

Attorneys representing a class of consumers who reached a $900,000 settlement with Scientific American’s publisher in a Video Privacy Protection Act over website tracking pixels will receive about $200,000 in attorneys’ fees, down from the $300,000 they proposed.

“Although counsel devoted time and effort to this case to achieve an outstanding result,” Judge Lewis J. Liman of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said their “hourly rates are greater than those approved by courts in this Circuit for this type of litigation and the hours billed were far greater than necessary for this case.”
