Samsung Washing Machine Deal, $3.8 Million Attorneys’ Fees OK’d

A Samsung Electronics America Inc. settlement that gave rebates, repair reimbursement, and other relief in a suit alleging top-loading washers can come apart during use was upheld Friday by the Tenth Circuit.

A $3.8 million award to the plaintiffs’ lawyers for fees and costs, reduced from a request of $6.25 million, was also affirmed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

Samsung consumers experienced issues with the top-load door detaching mid-cycle and spewing water. Litigation ensued, resulting in a class settlement with Samsung and retailers.
