Samsung Updates Privacy Notice to End Paxton TV Spying Lawsuit

Samsung Electronics America will no longer collect automated content recognition data without the informed consent of consumers, an agreement that ends an anti-privacy lawsuit from the state of Texas.

The resolution the parties announces separately Thursday calls for Samsung to update its smart TVs and implement consent screens that are clear and conspicuous, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) said in a press release.

“I commend Samsung for being one of the first smart TV companies in the world to make these important changes,” Paxton said. “Texans must be fully informed about whether their data is collected and be in full control of how it’s used.”
