Samsung Must Face Most Claims Over Allegedly Fire-Prone Dryers

Samsung Electronics America Inc. must face most claims in a would-be consumer suit alleging flawed drums in some dryers develop cracks that snag on clothes and create a fire risk by allowing lint to fall into the heating element, a New Jersey federal court said.

Plaintiffs raised viable claims under California, New Jersey, New Mexico, Illinois, and Florida consumer protection laws, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey said.

Judge Kevin McNulty also allowed consumers to advance their claims under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which serves as a vehicle for consumers to assert state law breach ...
